Dr Kathy Vail


Dr. Vail is originally from Sea Isle City in South Jersey.  Go Eagles!  Dr. Vail obtained her B.A. and teaching degree from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.  She then attended UMES for her master's degree in counseling and her doctorate in organizational leadership.  Dr. Vail studied at Wilmington University to complete her administration training.  She has lived in the Salisbury area for 23 years.  Dr. Vail started her career as a guidance counselor near Roanoke, Virginia then moved to the Eastern Shore.  She served for many years as a private practice therapist and continues to hold the title of MD Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.  Dr. Vail began working in Maryland public schools in Worcester County (8 years) after which Dr. Vail began working for Wicomico Public Schools as an Assistant Principal in 2006.  She has served as an Assistant Principal at Pittsville Elementary and Middle School, Beaver Run Elementary School, Delmar Elementary School,  and North Salisbury Elementary School before her assignment as Principal of Choices Academy for 2017-2018.  Dr. Vail has taught at UMES and Wor-Wic Community College.  She has two daughters, both of whom attend Wicomico County Public Schools.  She is an avid Eagles fan, loves geocaching with her family, goes camping whenever the schedule allows, and enjoys all watersports!

Mr Michael Beale

Assistant Principal

Mr. Beale is from Baltimore MD.  Mr. Beale obtained his B.S. in teaching from Salisbury University in Salisbury Maryland.  He then attended Wilmington University where he received two Master’s degrees, one in School Leadership and the other in Applied Technology in Education. Mr. Beale has over 20 years of teaching experience in Wicomico County Public Schools.  He was a Dean of Students at Choices Academy in 2015.  He became the Vice-Principal there the following year.  Mr. Beale is still serving as Vice-Principal of Choices Academy.   

Mr. Beale is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  He and his fraternity brothers run the Kappa League Summer Basketball League.  The Kappa League has earned two citations from the state of Maryland and one citation from Wicomico County.  This league is the longest running summer basketball league in the state of Maryland, going on twenty-eight years. He enjoys reading comics, spending time with family, volunteering in the community, and watching his daughter play her sports.  He is a season ticket holder for the Baltimore Ravens. Mr. Beale lives in Salisbury with his daughter.

Ms Dynetta Opher

Dean of Students

Mrs. Opher is from Delmar, Maryland.  Mrs. Opher obtained her bachelors degree from Salisbury University.  She then attended Wilmington University where sh received her Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling.

Mrs. Opher has worked for the Compass Program (formerly Connections) and for the WCBOE Office of Safe Schools. She enjoys reading and referees high school volleyball and basketball.  She enjoys traveling and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Opher currently resides in Salisbury, Maryland with her husband, Franklin.
